Near Real-Time 3D Reconstruction and Quality 3D Point Cloud for Time-Critical Construction Monitoring

Improving the rapidity of 3D reconstruction is vital for time-critical construction tasks such as progress monitoring and hazard detection, but majority studies in this area have focused on improving its quality. We applied a Direct Sparse Odometry with Loop Closure (LDSO)-based method, existing algorithm tuning hyper-parameter settings, to achieve both near real-time operation quality point cloud simultaneously. When validated using benchmark dataset, proposed method showed notable improvement density, well loop closure robustness, compared original LDSO. In addition, we conducted real field test validate tuned LDSO’s accuracy speed at object site scales, where demonstrated our method’s capability produce comparable that method. The improves accessibility technique, which turn helps professionals monitor their jobsite safety more efficient manner.
